Mailed-in Passport Applications Adult Renewals (PC7 only)
Eligibility
For a renewal, you must be 18 years and over and you will need a passport that:
- was issued when you were aged 16 or older
- was issued on or after 1 January 2006
- had, when it was issued, at least two years’ validity
- has your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender, and
- has not been reported lost, stolen, or cancelled.

If you don’t meet these criteria, you’ll need to book an appointment to lodge your application in person.
Documents
You must provide the following:
- A completed renewal application form, dated within six months of lodgement, checking that:
- Section 5 of the form is signed and dated
- Your signature is kept inside the white box with no alterations or ‘whiteout’ on the signature or the date
- Your application form is valid, make sure your review the expiration date at the top of form
- Your form is printed correctly with no sections missing or cut-off
- Your place of birth is exactly the same as your previous passport
- You have provided your phone number and email address
- Two Australian standard passport photos, less than six months old, with your full name written on the back of one photo
- You can refer to our photo guidelines
- Do not attach the photos to the form, leave them loose in the envelope. Do NOT use staples, paper clips or anything else that may damage your photos.
Signatures
It is very important that your signature is included on your application in strict accordance with the guidelines.
Your entire signature must be kept inside the white box provided on the form. If it is not, we can't process your form and your application will be delayed.
Your signature must be dated within six months of lodgement and must be in BLACK INK. If it is not, we can't process your form and your application will be delayed.
Do NOT alter your signature or the date. Do NOT use white out on your signature or the date. If there are errors on your application or it was dated more than six months before lodgement, you will need to reprint the form - taking care to sign and date it appropriately.
Payment and processing
Once we have received your completed application, we will send you a payment link by email. Please ensure that your email address is legible on the form and that it is an email address you use regularly. Please pay within 3 working days.
It will take aaround 10 weeks to process your passport. Your passport remains valid while the application is being processed (as long as its not expired) and will be cancelled electronically 30 days after we have sent out your new passport.
Incomplete applications cannot be processed and will be returned to you, further delaying the process. If you have travel plans, you may wish to consider lodging the application in person.

Eligibility
Child passport renewal applications (PC8) can be mailed-in provided the applicant is:
- under the age of 16 (i.e. 15 or below);
- has previously held an Australian passport

For first-time child applications and applicants aged 16 or 17, the application must be lodged in person by appointment only.
1. Get the form
Fill out the passport application at the global website and print it off. You will need to create an account first. When you fill out your application form online, you will automatically be directed to the correct form and a list of required supporting documents will be available.
You will need to send us the completed form, two passport photographs and certified copies of relevant documents as per the next steps.
2. Print, sign and date your form.
Print: You may need to adjust your print settings so that the top/bottom of the pages are not cut off.
Sign: Make sure all sections are signed and witnessed where required before you send the form to us.
Date: Signatures are valid for six months only.
Children 10 years or older must provide a signature unless there is a medical reason or disability that prevents them from signing.
Parental Consent is required for a child passport. Everyone who’s giving consent must sign section 15 of the form in front of a witness. Parents are not able to witness each other’s signatures. The witness must be an unrelated third party.
3. Parents' proof of identity
Please submit certified copies of both parents’ ID showing their name, photo and signature, as well as a certified copy of proof of address, such as a residency permit, or utility bill
Name changes: If the current names of either parent are different to how they appear on the child’s birth certificate, please include certified documents that explain the change of name.
Certified copies can be taken by the guarantor (step 4). They should write on the photocopy; "this is a true copy of the original document presented to me", with their full name, occupation or Australian passport number and the date signed. Certified copies must be of good quality and may be presented in either colour or black and white.
4. Photographs and Guarantor
We recommend that you have your photos taken by a photographer showing them the photograph guidelines. Photos taken in photo booth will likely be rejected.
A guarantor must sign the application and endorse the back of one photo for all PC8 applications and certify relevant copies. The guarantor cannot be related to the applicant.
5. Posting your application and payment

Please note that you are not required to mail the previous passport of the applicant, nor certified copies of their birth and citizenship certificate if they were provided with the last application.
Once we have received the completed application, we will send you a payment link by email. Please ensure that your email address is legible on the form and that it is an email address you use regularly. Please pay within 3 working days.
6. Processing time
Please allow a minimum of 6-8 weeks for passports to be received.
PLEASE NOTE: incomplete applications will cause delays. You should factor these timeframes into your travel plans. It is your responsibility to keep your Australian passport valid.
Your passport remains valid while the application is being processed (if not expired) and will be cancelled electronically 30 days after we have sent out your new passport.
